Wooden Goblets: Ceremonial and Old Fashioned
If you want something special that is crafted by hand and has ancient roots then consider a fine set of wooden goblets. For centuries special occasions have been marked by the toasting of wine or other spirits from handmade wood goblets. You can bring that same sense of ceremony and ritual to your table by picking up a set of these drinking vessels for yourself. Of course you don't need a special event or ceremony to enjoy using goblets crafted from wood.There are skilled woodworkers who still produce goblets that are very close to what was made centuries ago.
Some of the goblets created these days are very expensive, while others are much cheaper. One high end example are the Glossed Mango Wood Goblets which retail for around $255 for a set of two. Although the wood is hand turned, glossed and stained it is not necessary to pay quite so much for a set of goblets handmade from wood. The goblets available from this company are hand turned on a lathe. Solid domestic hardwood is used which has been kiln dried to avoid splitting as the goblet ages. Each vessel crafted by Crafty Owl is finished in four steps. The first two coats prevent moisture from getting to the wood. The final two coats protect the wood and provide a surface safe for food and beverages, even alcoholic ones. The average goblet from this company can hold around 6 ounces of liquid although the size does vary.
