Who Makes Etched Goblets?
Many different glass manufacturers are experts in their fields in making etched goblets. Glass etching is the process of carving or blasting ornate designs into the glass. The result is a texturized image that may be abstract or may depict a particular scene. This process has been used on glass for ages, therefore you can find both antique and modern goblets that feature etching. Sometimes etched goblet pieces will have color to them, other times they will be crystal clear with white etching as their only adornment. One beautiful antique example is the Cambridge Blossom Time goblets, which feature gold trim on the rim and base. Because these particular goblets are rare when found intact, they can cost quite a bit.
Etching was quite popular during the Victorian era. If you happen to find a set of etched glasses from this era count yourself lucky, however they are going to be expensive. During Victorian times the trend was intricate ornamentation. You may come across goblets with floral patterns, trumpeting cherubs and lots of adornments. While there are lots of beautiful antique goblets out there you don't have to spend a fortune to get the etched look.
For example, brands like Pfaltzgraff which are widely available make incredible etched glassware. If you want a truly festive holiday look check out their Winterberry goblets, which are etched with mistletoe and holly with beautiful red and green coloring and a red stem and base. These goblets are perfect for serving water, wine, punch or any other beverage you choose. To find other brands who offer etching on their glasses check out department stores and superstores like Target and Wal-Mart. Usually the glassware offered at these stores is affordable and varied in brand and style. Upscale department stores may have less selection and finer pieces that cost more.
Etched goblets make fantastic gifts for a wedding, anniversary, birthday or holiday. Everyone needs stemware, so why not give them the gift of beautiful etched glass? Glass etching ranges from very subtle to quite dramatic, so comparison shopping may be necessary. Buying yourself a nice set of goblets for wine, water or punch is a wonderful indulgence that can brighten up your table and your china cabinet. Whether you shop online or in a store you'll find a decent selection available.
